How do I play on the Microplay Online servers?

QUESTION: How do I play on your servers?

ANSWER:
You must first open an official Microplay Online player account. You will receive a confirmation of your user name (your email address) and your password. When you want to play, log onto the microplayonline.com site as a member and start your game on your computer. If the game is supported on our servers (see the list of supported games), you will see servers with a name starting with [MICROPLAY] on the list of available servers (they will be numbered for each game, name starts with square brackets so be careful if you sort the list). Choose the available server and enjoy your game.

QUESTION: Why do non-Vidéotron subscribers pay more for the service?

ANSWER: Because they are outside the Vidéotron network, and the internet provider must pay other providers for bandwidth.

QUESTION: How do you choose the games you host?

ANSWER: You can consult the list of games we host here. The Microplay Online team based its choice on the most popular games in LAN meetings. We are open to suggestions, so feel free to recommend games here. We have to obtain the publisher's permission to provide a game on our servers.

QUESTION: I subscribed and I haven't received my confirmation.

ANSWER: Even though we try to respond quickly, there are times when network traffic is heavy. If you have not received anything after 30 minutes and the account creation process did not generate an error message, contact customer service here.

QUESTION: How long is my subscription?

ANSWER: Except in the case of a special offer, the minimum length of a subscription is 30 days, subject to 30 days' notice to end your subscription. You can cancel your subscription by visiting your account page on the Microplay Online site. You can choose the option you want. Promotional subscriptions may require a minimum commitment period if they include equipment at the time of purchase. Read the subscription conditions carefully before activating.

QUESTION: I am registered on the site but I can¹t get to all the forums.

ANSWER: Free site registration gives you access to some zones, but only paid access to the site allows you to read and write to all forums.

QUESTION: I registered through a friend who subscribed to Vidéotron to take advantage of the offer, but now I can't play from my computer and my Internet access provider is not Vidéotron.

ANSWER: Note that the system recognizes Vidéotron subscribers and distinguishes Vidéotron subscribers from others when they access the services. Do not try to subscribe to the Microplay Online service from the computer of a friend who has subscribed to Vidéotron to take advantage of the lower price, because you will not be able to play from your computer if you are not subscribed to Vidéotron. You are allowed four foreign connections a month if you are a Vidéotron high-speed subscriber. Contact us to correct your subscription if you wish unlimited access from remote locations other than Vidéotron.

QUESTION: I am a Vidéotron subscriber and I can't play from another Internet access.

ANSWER: This is normal, because you enjoy a lower price and the service access distinguishes between the Vidéotron subscribers and others. If you are registered on the Microplay Online service and are a Vidéotron subscriber but want to play with your account from another computer, you must play through another Vidéotron subscriber. You are allowed four foreign connections a month if you are a Vidéotron high-speed subscriber. Contact us to correct your subscription if you wish unlimited access from remote locations other than Vidéotron.

QUESTION: I was ejected from a game in progress.

ANSWER: If that happens often, someone may be using your Microplay Online account and password. Please change your password. If the problem persists, contact us. Some multiplayer games can crash unexpectedly under certain conditions. If this happens, the game will be restarted in a few minutes. Check the Forum for confirmed service outage.

QUESTION: Can my firewall affect the service?

ANSWER: Your Internet connection allows you to play online. It must be working and high-speed. A firewall blocks some ports on your Internet connection to restrict access to your computer. Normally, your firewall should not stop you from playing online. If you are unable to connect to the game servers after being logged in, make sure you don't have a firewall like Zone Alarm that could restrict communication with your computer. If your firewall asks you to allow communication on a given port when you start playing, allow it. If you deny it, you are probably blocking a port that is needed by the game. As owner of the computer, you are the only one who can fix this problem. (For example, after launching Enemy Territory, your firewall will ask you if you want to allow et.exe to access the Internet. You must allow the file to do so in order to play online.

QUESTION: I have just received a suspicious email asking me for information on my account.

ANSWER: The Microplay Online team, Reeves communication inc., and Vidéotron ltée will never ask you for your Microplay Online account information or a game CD Key via email or during a game. Do not trust this kind of email because it may be "phishing," a malicious trick unscrupulous people use to try to obtain your account information. If you are often ejected from games, someone might have taken your password and user name. You can change your password in your account settings. Choose an alphanumeric password combining at least 6 letters and numbers.

QUESTION: What do I do if a player is behaving aggressively?

ANSWER: The Microplay Online team wants to know if you encounter any subscribers to the service who do not behave properly during a game. We will issue an official warning, and if the behaviour persists, as stipulated in the service agreement we will disconnect the person permanently. Please feel free to contact us if you see any abusive behaviour. For example:

  • A player wilfully blocks a game under way (a corridor, an access, a passage) and repeatedly refuses to allow the team through.
  • A player uses Teamspeak to criticize and/or shows aggressive behaviour.

QUESTION: Am I on a Macintosh. Will the service work for me?

ANSWER: The Microplay Online service is not incompatible with Macintosh computers, but it is important to know that many games do not work on this platform. Make sure that the game you want to play has a Macintosh version. You will need at least a G4 computer with Mac OS X. Note, however, that if you play on a Macintosh, our customer service will not be able to help you configure your system.

QUESTION: Am I on Linux. Will the service work for me?

ANSWER: The Microplay Online service is not incompatible with Linux, but it is important to know that many games do not work on this operating system. Fortunately, FPS games are often well supported on Linux. Make sure that the game you want to play works on your computer before starting. In general, the technical requirements for a game on Linux are similar to the specifications under Windows. Note, however, that if you play on Linux, our customer service will not be able to help you configure your system.

QUESTION: I would like to use Teamspeak, but I also want to use my loudspeakers for the game sounds.

ANSWER: You can configure Windows for two sound cards. Assign Teamspeak to one card and choose the other card for game sounds. To do this, you will need 2 sound cards and Windows 2000 or XP.

QUESTION: I am connected to the site, but I no longer have access to the game servers.

ANSWER: Once you are identified on the site as a paying member, you have 30 minutes to start playing on one our servers before your session expires. Please note that this delay also applies between 2 games. When you leave a game, you have thirty minutes to start another. If you no longer have access to the game servers, all you have to do is identify yourself again on the site.

QUESTION: How do I play on the Microplay Online servers?

ANSWER: In order to play on our servers, you must first be a member of the Microplay Online service. If you are, then identify yourself on the site with your account and follow the steps outlined in the guide.

QUESTION: I just played against a player who has the word Microplay or Admin in his name. Is that an official member of the Microplay Online team?

ANSWER: No! When our employees play on the servers, they don't use the "Microplay" name. For security reasons, we always remain anonymous on the game servers. Since aliases cannot be reserved in the games, we advise you not to attach any importance to players¹ names. And remember, under no circumstances will we ask you for any personal information during a game.
